Bridgeport Man Gets 58 Years For Fatally Shooting Best Friend: Report

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport man was sentenced to 58 years in prison Wednesday after being convicted of luring his high school best friend to an abandoned factory and fatally shooting him, according to a CTPost report.

The shooting occurred in Nov. 2019 at a factory in Remington, where prosecutors said Luis Roman, 28, "essentially carried out an execution" of his friend, Miguel Afzal, 22 — "shooting Mr. Afzal in the back of the head and leaving him to die," the outlet reported.

Afzal's father said that on the night of the shooting, Afzal called him and told him he was heading home after playing video games at Roman's house, according to the outlet.

The following month, Afzal's body was found in the basement of the abandoned building, the outlet reported.

Meanwhile, Roman's lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Isaias Pedraza said in court that Roman was abused and neglected as a child and is looking to focus on self-improvement in prison, the outlet reported.
