Bridgeport Man Killed After Car Crashes Into Tractor-Trailer At I-95 Rest Area In Fairfield

State Police say the tractor-trailer was parked in a no-parking zone at the entrance to the rest area.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport man was killed just two days after his 23rd birthday when his vehicle crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked in a no-parking zone at a rest area off I-95 in Fairfield early Thursday morning, according to state police.

State Troopers from Troop G responded to the accident at about 1:11 a.m. at the rest area on I-95 South between Exits 23 and 21 in Fairfield.

Lucky Keophannga, of Jackson Avenue in Bridgeport, was entering the rest area in his 2003 Mini Cooper when it struck the back of a tractor-trailer that was “parked, straddling the fire lane and travel lane, in a clearly marked ‘Fire Lane; No Parking Zone’ off the left side of the roadway at the entrance to the rest area,” police wrote in a press release.

Keophannga was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Gabriel Thompson, 47, of Philadelphia, was not injured in the crash.

Police said that “no enforcement action has been taken at this time” but the incident is under further investigation.
