Bridgeport Man Pleads Guilty In Federal Robbery Case: U.S. Attorney

Prosecutors said the defendant was one of four people involved in an April 2023 attempted robbery in Bridgeport.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 30-year-old Bridgeport man pleaded guilty in federal court last week in connection with a federal robbery case, U.S. Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery announced.

Andy Marte, also known as "AD," pleaded guilty Thursday before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven to conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, which carries a potential maximum prison sentence of 20 years.

According to court documents and statements, on April 28, 2023, Marte and two associates drove to a Bridgeport apartment building where they intended to rob an apartment where they believed they would find drugs and cash. Prosecutors said that Marte instructed his two associates, one of whom carried a crowbar, to carry out the robbery while he remained in the car as the getaway driver. He subsequently contacted a third associate, who arrived to participate in the robbery.

After failing to get into the apartment, Marte's three associates returned to the vehicle, where they were met by law enforcement. Officers searched the vehicle and the four, and seized two handguns, which Marte had brought to the robbery, and the crowbar.

Marte, who has been detained since is April 2023 arrest, is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Meyer on June 20.

This investigation is being conducted by FBI's Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force and the Bridgeport Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ross Weingarten and Karen Peck.
