Bridgeport Man Who Led Fairfield Police on High-Speed Chase Sentenced on Gun Charge: Feds

The chase came to an end when the man, a convicted felon, crashed into a snow bank and then threw a loaded gun from the car, officials say.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport man who led Fairfield Police on a high-speed chase before crashing into a snow bank last February has been sentenced to four years in federal prison on a gun charge, according to federal authorities.

Charles Young, 30, was sentenced Monday to 50 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally possessing a firearm, U.S. States Attorney Deirdre M. Daly announced in a press release.

Young was arrested on Feb. 25, 2015, after leading officers on a high-speed chase that began in Bridgeport’s east end, continued on I-95 South and ended when he crashed into a snow bank after exiting the highway in Fairfield, according to authorities.

During the chase, a witness saw Young throw something from his car in the vicinity of Exit 24 in Fairfield. A search of the area revealed a loaded Glock 22 .40 caliber firearm, Daly said.

At the time of his arrest, Young was on state probation following his conviction in 2010 for criminal possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. On Oct. 9, 2015, he was found to have violated his probation and was sentenced to five years of imprisonment.

Young has been detained since his arrest.

On Jan. 22, he pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A judge ordered Young’s federal sentence to run concurrently with his state sentence.
