Bridgeport Men Rescued After Boat Overturns In Fairfield: Police
The boaters were found clinging to rocks when the Fairfield Police Marine Unit responded to the scene.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Two Bridgeport men were rescued after their boat overturned off of Black Rock Harbor early Thursday afternoon. The Fairfield Police Marine Unit responded to the scene at about 12 p.m. and saw two men clinging to the rocks at the 2A navigational marker outside of Black Rock Harbor, according to police. The boat was overturned and partially submerged at anchor approximately 50 yards off of the 2A marker, police said.
The two rescued boaters were identified as Felix Almonte, 53, of Bridgeport, and Pedro Castro, 53 of Bridgeport. Castro was suffering from mild hyperthermia and was rushed to Captain’s Cove Marina where AMR was awaiting medical care, according to police.
“Preliminary investigation determined that sea and wind conditions were a contributing factor to the vessel overturning,” police said in a post on Facebook. “The boaters were not equipped with personal floatation devices.”
