A court has ordered a former Bridgeport nursing home operator to pay more than $3 million to employee health and retirement plans.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — A court has ordered a former nursing home operator to pay more than $3 million to employee health and retirement plans of two Bridgeport facilities, according to The Connecticut Post. The consent judgment issued by the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut requires Bridgeport Health Care Center Inc. and the company’s former officer Chaim Stern to pay $3,366,957 to resolve violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
An investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration, revealed Stern diverted more than $4.4 million of retirement plan assets to himself and other entities, The Post reported.
Stern pleaded guilty to embezzlement and tax charges in January.
