Bridgeport Officer Accused of Assaulting Resident After Car Crash: Report

The officer is the head of the Bridgeport Police Department's minority organization, The Guardians.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport police officer was arrested and charged with assaulting a city resident after a car crash on Hurd Avenue in September, reports the Connecticut Post.

Officer Davon Polite, 30, is accused of allegedly dragging a 41-year-old man from his van and beating and kicking the man on Sept. 19. Police say that Then-city Chief Administrative Officer John Gomes also attended a celebration which Polite had attended before the incident, and has been questioned in the investigation.

The alleged attack occurred after the victim's van collided with Polite's Mercedes sedan on Hurd Avenue. Polite is also the Bridgeport Police Department's minority organization, The Guardians.

Polite's Lawyer told the Connecticut Post that his client was acting in self defense, and that the charges are in retaliation for Polite's work with the Guardians.
