IT'S really to bad we can not turn back the clocks to a better time period when Bridgeport had it all.NO longer is the city of industry as it once was.The biggest city in the state faltered and our industry disappeared.Focus today is on redevelopment especially downtown.During 1870-1920-Bridgeport led the way in industry with many factories and many jobs. The city was the center for trade and shipbuilding too.The industrial craze lasted to the 70's.Then the city struggled with poverty and crime and the city lost its'foothold in manufacturing. This was due to the restructuring of heavy industry. The 70's and 80's brought a economic downturn. The city lost its'manufacturing and jobs .The city went into a decline until the 21st century when things started looking better. With the redevelopment of old buildings and new housing took its'course.NEW housing attracted new residents and apartments were built and change took place.NOW our city is attracting new cultural interests as well as sports.Revitalization of downtown may be the very substance we need to bring salvation to our cities'economic outlook. The future of Bridgeport looks brighter.
