FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport woman went on a shoplifting spree and crashed into a police vehicle while intoxicated, according to Fairfield police. Marcia Daniels faces multiple charges in the incidents, police said.

While on patrol one afternoon last week, an officer saw a grey Acura sedan stopped on Stanford Street at Post Road, despite the presence of a green light, a police report said. The driver — Daniels — appeared to be passed out, so the officer parked in front of the car and knocked on its window. When Daniels awoke, she accelerated, hitting the front of the police vehicle, according to the report.

After two sobriety tests revealed Daniels had a blood alcohol content of about 0.14 percent, she was charged with driving under the influence, plate misuse, unsafe start and no seatbelt, police said.

Daniels, 63, was also charged last week in connection with several thefts, according to police. Officers found more than 60 cans of chilled Red Bull on the floor of her car, but she had no receipt for the drinks, police said. Video footage from the Fairfield University Bookstore shows Daniels stuffing an assortment of clothes into a large purse, according to police, who also tied Daniels to the theft of a variety of coffee products and other items from Marshalls, as well as merchandise stolen from Cardsmart in Monroe.

Daniels was charged with larceny for the thefts, police said, noting the items have an estimated value of more than $500.
