A Casino Could Still Be Coming to Bridgeport: Report

Talks of a Bridgeport casino are back on the table after a "bomb" was dropped on tribal leaders planning to build a casino in East Windsor.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — It seems that the idea of a casino in Bridgeport is back in play, after MGM Grand offered to replace the expected revenue losses with a Southwestern Connecticut casino, most likely to be located in Bridgeport, reports the Connecticut Post.

The report indicates the offer "dropped a bomb" on the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot Native American tribes, who were planning to build a new casino in East Windsor to offset a loss in revenue due to the MGM's Springfield, Mass. casino. The tribes pay the state 25 percent of all slot revenue in exchange for exclusive right to operate casinos on tribal land, and have warned that the payments would end if the state grants anyone but the tribes a gaming license.
