Child Rushed To Hospital After Being Left In Hot Car In Bridgeport: PD

Passersby had to break the car's window to rescue the child, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A small child was rushed to a hospital Wednesday after being left in a hot car in Bridgeport, and a person has been arrested in connection with the case, according to authorities.

The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the Bass Pro Shop, where passersby saw the child who was banging on the window.

"Reporting party indicated they had to break the window to retrieve the child due to the extreme heat," said Scott Appleby, the city's Director of Emergency Management. "Bridgeport Police and [American Medical Response] were dispatched to the location and on-scene reports indicated the child was immediately transported to Bridgeport Hospital by AMR for evaluation."

The child was described by medical staff as being in good spirits, according to Appleby, and the state Department of Children and Families has been notified of the incident and is involved in the case.

Police identified the operator of the vehicle, Bridgeport resident Rubeidi Montero-Matos, who was arrested at the scene and was charged with the following:

  • Risk of injury to a minor child
  • Reckless Endangerment, 1st degree
  • Improper use of marker plate
  • No insurance

Montero-Matos was held in lieu of bail of $50,000, and is due in court at a later date.

While at the hospital, the child's mother, Bridgeport resident Solderlin Ferrera-Tavarez, was arrested on a separate failure to appear charge, according to authorities.
