City Scrap Metal Sales Investigated: Bridgeport PD

Police started an investigation after allegations of improper use of cash from the sale of scrap metal.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Police have opened an investigation after allegations surfaced of improper use of cash linked to scrap metal sales in the Public Facilities Department.

An anonymous letter was sent to members of the city council last month, according to the Connecticut Post.

The department has an off-the-books cash accounts for the sale of scrap metal from city construction projects or city clean-up efforts. Money goes to purchase things like birthday cakes, and events to boost employee morale.
