DO you Remember Bordens'Milk Company??

ELSIE THE COW was the symbol of freshness

YES- ELSIE THE COW was the trademark of our local dairy.Years ago during the late 40's early 50's I can remember like it were yesterday that the local dairy trucks delivered milk to our homes.ALL deliveries from my perspective were from BORDENS'MITCHEL DAIRY right on NORTH AVENUE .I got to know the milkmen by first name because I saw them frequently.I remember opening the milk by pulling the cardboard tab which became collectible in later years.I remember the glass bottles. There were no plastic milk bottles back in the day.Delivered milk was really a important part of the consumers 'day.Boy I miss those days when I'D pour my milk for my cereal from that cold glass bottle.

Also at the dairy on NORTH AVENUE was a combination dairy store where we'd go once in a while for banana splits, ice cream sodas, floats etc.OH GOD it was awesome to eat ice cream sitting in a comfortable booth.MY mom and aunt took us there which was a short walk for us because we lived at the time in THE HOLLOW.Things were fun times back in the day.Now the dairy of course is part of our cities'history never again will it emerge to become the wonderful place it was once long ago.
