IF you were hungry during your shopping trip downtown B ridgeport boy did you have options of places to dine especially during the 1940's and 1950s'AT some point in time you could dine at the OCEAN SEA GRILL then catch the latest Hollywood movie right across the street at THE LOEWS'POLI or THE MAJESTIC .There was THE LYRIC THEATER ALSO nearby and of course THE STRAND and lets'not forget THE GLOBE THEATER TOO.ALL these theaters were reasonably priced back in the day.
Getting back to the food places to dine at the list continues with THE BRYNMAR DINER as well as THE WHITE CASTLE where burgers were great.I do remember that place.Walking down a little from there you'd find THE CONEY ISLAND fast foods place and boy I remember the hot dogs there.IF you would head down MAIN STREET you could grab a quick bite at H.L.GREENSI remember them days so vividly. Also you could always find a seat at WALGREENS next to THE ARCADE.People ate in all these places but ,sadly they are gone forever ,just another piece of BRIDGEPORTS' history before the malls became the place to go with the food courts. How downtown differs today versus the 40's and the 50's is amazing but sad to say the only thing left are the golden memories of our once so beautiful downtown.
