Former Bridgeport Attorney Stole Client Funds: Officials

He took a check and deposited it into his own account, according to the Division of Criminal Justice.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A former attorney who practiced law in Bridgeport was arrested and charged with stealing more than $9,000 from a client in order to make a payment in a bankruptcy proceeding, according to the Division of Criminal Justice.

Alfred Cali, 61, of North Arlington, N.J. was arrested Wednesday by inspectors from the Statewide Prosecution Bureau. He is charged with second-degree larceny.

Cali was supposed to send his client's check to a lender as part of a bankruptcy proceeding, but instead deposited it into his own personal account, according a release from the DCJ.

Bond was set at $50,000.
