Former DMV Worker Sentenced In $80k Theft
She exploited a loophole in the vehicle registration process and pocketed the cash.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A former DMV worker was sentenced to one year in prison after she was found to have stolen about $80,000 by exploiting a loophole when registering motor vehicles.
Kimberly Brown of Bridgeport worked at the DMV's Bridgeport office. She forged documents to say vehicle sales were between immediate family members, which comes with a tax exemption. She then pocketed payments that were made in cash.
Brown told Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin that she didn't steal the cash on purpose, but he responded that it was a well-thought out scheme that cost taxpayers money, according to the New Haven Register. So far she has made $10,000 in restitution and was ordered to keep paying.
