A Great Town/Great Memories/

Downtown had it all

I remember downtown BRIDGEPORT,CT.as though it were just yesterday but its;been decades for sure.So many changes from stores that use to be to new ones popping up.Downtown was my mecca of fun and excitement and meeting my friends. From CONGRESS CANDY where I spent hours playing nickel pinball games and heading to HOLLAND BOWLING ALLEYS and then going downstairs to THE CONEY ISLAND for a hot dog and coke life was just so cool and uncomplicated not like today. With five dollars in my pocket I had the world at my fingertips.Imagine what five bucks would get you back in the day.I remember H.L.GREENS and buying the latest 45 rpm records.FOR example whatever happened to LEVITTS DEPARTMENT STORE?OR how about MORROWS'NUT HOUSE with the aroma of roasted nuts teasing your hunger pangs as you were near there?I walked MAIN ST.as though it were the GREEN MILE sadness grabbing me as the many memories of growing up here crossed my mind.I took a deep breath as I viewed the changes.I wiped the tears from my eyes as I saw some familiar things some real changes of course. Some times change is good though I wish it never happened downtown where I spent many hours.NOW I have golden memories of the past which I will cherish forever.
