BRIDGEPORT, CT — Two Bridgeport residents were arrested Thursday, after Bridgeport police found an illegal handgun in their vehicle during a motor vehicle stop on Washington Avenue at Sanford Place.

The traffic stop occurred after police had been dispatched to the nearby area around Park Avenue and Washington Terrace on a report of a person brandishing a firearm.

"This area has notable incidents of gun violence," said Bridgeport Police Lt. Sean Lynch in a statement.

After receiving a description of the vehicle containing the suspect, officers saw the vehicle traveling without a front license plate, and stopped it on Washington Avenue at Sanford Place.

"As the suspect exited the vehicle, officers observed a spent pistol shell casing on the driver’s seat, indicative of a pistol fired from within the vehicle," Lynch said. "The suspect was detained as well as the female passenger, and subsequent investigation resulted in locating a loaded Glock 22 .40 Caliber pistol under the passenger seat as well as an additional spent shell casing."

The pistol, which police seized, had a high-capacity magazine with 12 rounds in it, according to Lynch, and it had a laser sight attached. Additionally, the gun's serial number had been obliterated. The confiscated gun will undergo additional forensic testing.

Neither occupant of the vehicle had a pistol permit, and both were placed under arrest.

The driver was identified as Roberto Ramos, 28, and the passenger was Everdoll Torres, 35. Both were charged with:

  • Carrying pistol without permit
  • Alteration of Firearm identification
  • Illegal possession of large-capacity magazine

Ramos was additionally charged with failure to display plates. Both were held in lieu of bail of $50,000, and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
