The ''Hollow''section of Bridgeport played a major part in my growing up there .AS a youngster many of us were friends and fellow school mates.I was born in 1943 so I can really relate to dozens of changes in the HOLLOW over the past several decades.I attended Washington School for a few years which at that time stood next to ST.Augustines'Church on Pequonnock Street right in the heart of the Hollow.
Those folks who once lived in the area surely remember JERRYS'APIZZA a very well known eatery of the HOLLOW.Growing up on Harral Avenue I spent many hours enjoying pizzas and grinders from the most talked about place ever.IT was great food at great prices back in the day.
Also I'M sure folks who lived in the area remember MARCS'DRUGSTORE on Pequonnock Street and Jones avenue.I can remember making a dime phone call from a wooden booth in the rear of MARCS' place and enjoyment of five cent cokes served at the counter. Those were the days all right. Also I'M sure folks remember DORIOS' Variety on Pequonnock STREET where the best lemon ice sold for a nickel. Also candy was a penny there also.Certainly I miss those good old days.

The HOLLOW was a blend of different races but there was no signs of prejudice when I grew up there. Our society today is so different than back in the day.WE respected each other.WE were kids growing up in a peaceful environment for the most part.WE had many friends on the blocks stretching from MADISON AVENUE down through Harral Avenue all the way to Park avenue and all the streets in between.IT was a wonderful community back then.WE lived in harmony and life was good.Today the HOLLOW still exists but all my friends are gone but I still carry the memories of THE HOllOW in my mind and will treasure them forever.
