BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport man wanted in connection with a shooting there was arrested Thursday in Stamford, according to police, who said he was found in a car with a pistol and a 10-month-old baby.

Xavier Dash, 36, was charged on a warrant out of Bridgeport with first-degree assault with a firearm, Stamford Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

"[Bridgeport police] felt that the firearm Dash used in that shooting had not been recovered and that there was a good chance he still had that firearm," Conklin said. "They had information that he was in Stamford."

Members of the Stamford Police Department's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad tracked Dash to the area of 3rd Street and Bedford Street at approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, Conklin said.

Officers pinned Dash inside the parked car he was sitting in and he was taken into custody.

"They found Dash sitting in the car with a 10-month-old infant, believed to be his child," Conklin said, noting the baby's mother was inside the CT Department of Social Services on Bedford Street.

A 9mm semi-automatic pistol was found in the center console of the car, Conklin said.

"There's some thought that the weapon found in the car might be involved in the Bridgeport shooting and that was seized and it will be tested to determine that," Conklin added.

Dash's arrest warrant came with a $500,000 court-set bond, but he was remanded to custody by his parole officer, according to Conklin.

Police came and transported Dash back to Bridgeport later in the day Thursday.

"An investigation continues at this point," Conklin said. "We expect additional charges to be levied on Dash in the future."
