Many Changes IN Bridgeport over TIME

BRIDGEPORT Has A Historical Past

Going back in time Bridgeport's challenges were numerous but as time progressed a lot of things happened that benefited the city.During the early years a good part of the land here belonged to THE PEQUONNOCK INDIANS -members of THE PAUGUSSETT NATION.Also at one time parts of BRIDGEPORT belonged to FAIRFIELD and STRATFORD.Along the PEQUONNOCK RIVER in 1665THE ENGLISH settled in.Some areas were known then as NEWFIELD.IN 1701 STRATFIELD was named and still bears the name today.Bridgeport was erected as a city in 1836.

IN the early years we depended on WHALING and Fishing.Shipbuilding was really being done here too.Bridgeport has changed and grown in so many ways. When the railroad system started in 1840 it helped Bridgeports' growth. Now we head into the 21st century with aspirations of changes coming and hopefully we will be successful in all our endeavors .
