Pedestrian Pinned Under Vehicle, Critically Injured In Bridgeport Crash: Police

The Monday night crash occurred on East Washington Avenue, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 63-year-old Bridgeport man was critically injured Monday night after being struck and pinned under a vehicle in the 100 block of East Washington Avenue, according to authorities.

Bridgeport police and fire crews responded around 7:30 p.m. to reports that a pedestrian had been stuck, and when officers arrived, they found the man trapped beneath a gray vehicle in the eastbound lane, wrote Sgt. Darryl Wilson in a statement.

Firefighters freed the man from under the vehicle, and he was transported by American Medical Response to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition, Wilson said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim was walking westbound in the eastbound lane of East Washington Avenue when he stumbled and fell into the roadway. A gray vehicle traveling eastbound, driven by a 56-year-old Bridgeport woman, then ran over him and came to a stop with the pedestrian trapped underneath, according to investigators.

The driver and a 29-year-old Bridgeport passenger were not injured and declined medical treatment, Wilson said.

The Bridgeport Police Accident Reconstruction Team processed the scene, and the crash remains under investigation by the department’s Traffic Division.
