I remember this store when it was in BRIDGEPORT CT..MY dad bought auto parts needed from them.I remember this place like it was just yesterday.While my dad was at the parts desk I'D ramble around looking at the bikes they carried wondering if one day I'D see one under my CHRISTMAS TREE.Their store windows were very large and the bikes looked so enticing especially when you were a kid.
WESTERN AUTO was a specialty store ,perhaps you can call it a hardware store.They sold bikes,auto supplies,home appliances,lawn mowers and some toys.The company started back in 1909.IT started in KANSAS CITY ,MISSOURI founded by GEORGE PEPPERDINE and DON ASNER DAVIS.THE company was a great success for a long time.

IN 1961 WESTERN AUTO got bought by BENEFICIAL CORPORATION.LATER management had a leveraged buyout.in 1980.THREE years later SEARS took over the reins.AIN ingood part of the company changed over to the name of ADVANCED AUTO.in 1998.IN 2003 the merger led to the end of WESTERN AUTO.BY 2003 THE company went defunct.WESTERN AUTO was truly part of AMERICANA now it is just part of AMERICAS' history but at least I have golden memories of BACK IN THE DAY.
