PLEASURE BEACH was a great place for residents to enjoy the SUMMER days.THE bridge was a moveable WARREN through TRUSS BRIDGE.This bridge at the foot of PLEASURE BEACH once was a toll bridge. This was up until THE GREAT DEPRESSION.THEN the bridge was transferred to the CITY OF BRIDGEPORT.BADLY damaged by fire in 1996 it shut down access to the beach. There was a bond proposal to fix the bridge but it never went through. The beach caused controversy.A water taxi service developed later, about 2013.The length of the old wood bridge was 1259 feet.IN the early days the only way to the beach was by ferry.IN 1907 THE BRIDGEPORT FERRY COMPANY was given the rights to build this bridge. Then the GREAT DEPRESSION hit.The bridge idea was given back to the CITY OF BRIDGEPORT.AFTER the fire there was talk to restore the bridge but it was costly so it did not get reconstructed but sat there another forgotten thing of our cities'history.
