
REMINGTON ARMS went from a production company to destruction over the years.AT one point in BRIDGEPORTS'HISTORY REMINGTON ARMS was a 1.5 million square-foot structure comprised of thirteen buildings covering 73 acres.ITS' location BARNUM AVE.Originaly built in 1857 under the name of THE UNION METALIC CARTRIDGE COMPANY .THE company has a vast history.AT one point in time it was the largest ammunition supplier.THE factory employed about 17000 people.IT was one of the biggest employers at that time.IT stabilized the economic climate for sure.IT was a major supplier to our military .Then in 1970 REMINGTON moved its'major production force to ARKANSAS.This was the beginning of the decline of jobs lost.BY the time 1988 rolled around the site became abandoned and now stands blighted another eyesore for BRIDGEPORT Among other closed factoriesas well more lost jobs,lost taxes,lost production to our military as well.ANOTHER loss to our economy of course.NOW the fire burned structure tells its'own story .BROKEN windows ,empty parking places,empty buildings,stories of ghosts,lost tax dollars,and jobs gone forever.Some people say the company was cursed.IF that is true or not is open for debate.HOWEVER it stands in ruins as part of the cities'history that will never repeat itself for like other factories that were major players here it too lies among the forgotten and the forsaken
