MAIN FOCUS-PRODUCTION TO DESTRUCTION
AT one point in BRIDGEPORTS'HISTORY REMINGTON ARMS was a 1.5 million square feet structure comprised of 13 buildings covering 73 acres of land.ITS' location was at BARNUM-AVENUE .IT was originally built in 1867 under the name of THE UNION METALIC CARTRIDGE COMPANY .The company has a vast history .AT one point in time it was the largest ammunition supplier .The factory employed about 17,000 workers.IT was one of the biggest employers at that time.IT stabilized the economic climate.IT was a major supplier to our military. Then in 1970 REMINGTON moved.its'major production to the state of ARKANSAS.This was only the beginning of the decline of jobs lost.BY this time 1988 rolled around and the site became abandoned and now stands blighted another eyesore for BRIDGEPORT among other factories that we lost over time here in the city.Lost jobs-lost taxes-lost production-to our military and another loss to our economic outlook. Now the fire burned structure tells its'own story.Broken windows, empty parking lots, empty buildings, stories of ghosts ,lost tax dollars and jobs forever.
Some folks say the company was cursed if that is true or not its'debatable and however it stands in ruins a part of our cities' history that will never repeat itself for just like other factories that were major players here it too lies among the forgotten and forsaken.Sometimes HISTORY repeats itself but REMINGTON ARMS is now a memory of what use to be.
