State Sen. Moore Blasts Trump for Racist Tweets
"I am personally hurt and offended by what he said--and by his fellow Republicans for having his back on this," said Moore.

Marilyn For Bridgeport Campaign: State Senator Marilyn Moore (D-22) today blasted President Trump over his racist rants against four U.S. congresswomen, Representatives Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, by telling them "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came." Moore also denounced the white Republican legislators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator John Cornyn of Texas, Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Senator Steve Daines of Montana, and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy for declaring that they do not consider his comments to in fact be racist.
“I am personally hurt and offended by what he said--and by his fellow Republicans for having his back on this,” said Moore. “Stopping the racist rhetoric and patterns of not only our society, but of the current president and his supporters, must be more important than working to convince others that they don't have them. They are there, and people of color already know that they are there; the efforts of these Republican legislators to prove otherwise are not convincing.”
Moore continued, “I am also troubled and discouraged by the lack of forceful responses against Trump’s racist tweets by others in elected office. But above all, I am saddened and embarrassed by the message that Trump and those who support him are sending out to young women of color: that it is alright for the President of the United States to say such things about our fellow citizens because it’s ‘just politics.’ Not today and not ever is this alright. This is personal. This is harmful. And this has no place in the United States of America.”
