'Suspicious' Housing Development Fire Investigated In Bridgeport

No injuries were reported in the Monday fire, but several residents of the building have been temporarily displaced, authorities said.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A fire at a housing development on Yale Street in Bridgeport on Monday has been called "suspicious," and is being investigated by members of the Bridgeport police and fire departments.

Firefighters were called to 80 Yale St. at about 4:25 a.m., and police officers secured the scene while the blaze was extinguished.

"Yale Street Commons is a (44) unit townhouse development located on the West End of Bridgeport," wrote Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran in a statement. "Multiple citizens have been displaced from the fire. Units 10, 11, and 12 have significant damage. The Red Cross has responded to assist with providing shelter."

Details of the fire were not disclosed, but according to Gilleran, "detectives with the Bridgeport Police Department (BPD), Inspectors with the Bridgeport Fire Department (BFD), and Fire and Explosive Investigators with the Connecticut State Police (CSP) are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fire."
