BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport nursing home will close, leaving workers scrambling for jobs and residents looking for new places to stay. A state Department of Labor document said that a court-ordered bid program to sell Bridgeport Health Care Center (BHCC) was unsuccessful.

The judge in the bankruptcy case stated in a ruling that "inattention to the physical plant infrastructure over decades made operation of the facility, without heavy state subsidies, impossible."

The statement noted that federal law requires BHCC to provide 60 days notice to workers prior to the center's closure. It is likely that BHCC will remain open longer than that in order to discharge all its residents safely.

The facility was raided by federal agents in 2018, FOX 61 reported. Operators were accused of paying employees late or not at all.

An owner of the facility had filed for bankruptcy at that time and owed back taxes, pensions and wages, according to FOX 61.
