The Watermark at 3030 Park Celebrates American Heart Month

On Friday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m., in honor of American Heart Month, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host a free seminar on Hypertension and Heart Health with Carly Smolick, Watermark’s registered dietician. The event will be held at the retirement community, located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

During the event, Smolick will provide guests with information about which foods are heart healthy and can improve hypertension. As part of the month-long celebration, The Watermark at 3030 Park also recently held an American Heart Month health talk, led by Mario Alteus, RN.

“Cardiovascular disease is the nation’s leading killer of both men and women,” said Alteus. “American Heart Month was created to educate those who may suffer or are susceptible to the disease, so we hope that these health discussions will educate and inform residents, friends, and family on what they can do to prevent heart attacks.”

The continuing care retirement community also takes multiple steps to promote heart health throughout the year, including noting heart healthy meals on their daily menus and scheduling a consistent number of cardio fitness classes for residents.

“We are excited to offer these discussions in honor of American Heart Month, but we are always looking to promote a healthy and active lifestyle at The Watermark,” said The Watermark at 3030 Park’s Executive Director, Kristin Butler. “By offering these types of events to the greater Bridgeport community, we hope people will better understand what they can do to lead a healthy lifestyle.”
