2017 National Merit Scholarship Finalists

2017 National Merit Scholarship Finalists

Brookfield High School Seniors Emily Lazorchak, Amar H. Patel and Bipasha N. Phadnis are Finalists for the 2017 National Merit Scholarship program.

To become a Finalist, these students submitted a detailed scholarship application, in which they provided information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. Emily, Amar and Bipasha were initially named Semifinalists in September 2016 based on their outstanding academic records throughout high school, endorsements and recommendations by Principal Marc Balanda, written responses to an essay prompt, and SAT® scores that confirm their earlier performance on the PSAT qualifying test.

These academically talented high school seniors are now eligible for three types of National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring of 2017. Every Finalist will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit® $2,500 Scholarships that will be awarded on a state-representational basis. About 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards will be provided by approximately 230 corporations and business organizations for Finalists who meet their specified criteria. In addition, about 190 colleges and universities are expected to finance some 4,000 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution.
