Accused Brookfield PTO Embezzler Makes Plea

Police said she embezzled $12,700 ​ from the Center Elementary School PTO's accounts over two years.

DANBURY — The former treasurer of a Brookfield parent-teacher organization accused of embezzling money from the organization has pleaded not guilty to five felonies charges brought against her, the News-Times is reporting.

Monica Bevilacqua, 39, of Brookfield, was arrested in December after police said she embezzled $12,700 from the Center Elementary School PTO's accounts over two years. She has been accused of taking money from the organization's accounts via more than 180 personal orders charged to the organization's credit card and a series of checks.

The PTO is a private organization that doesn't receive any public funding from the town of Brookfield or its schools.

In addition to the one count of second-degree larceny, Bevilacqua was charged with one count of illegal use of a credit card and three counts of second-degree forgery, according to court records.

Bevilacqua's March 27 court date has been continued to April 11 for pretrial.
