BROOKFIELD, CT — Residents seeking mental health services will soon have expanded access to care as Brookfield Counseling prepares to open a new location in Newtown, bringing counseling services for individuals, couples, children, and families closer to home.

The new office, Newtown Therapy, a Southbury Counseling practice, represents the continued growth of an organization committed to providing accessible, high-quality mental health care throughout western Connecticut. Offices are currently located in Southbury, Brookfield, Cheshire, and Southington.

"We're excited to continue expanding access to high-quality mental health care in the community through the opening of Newtown Therapy, a Southbury Counseling practice," said owner Brendan Stack, LPC, LADC. "Our goal has always been to create welcoming, supportive environments for both patients and clinicians, and Newtown is another step toward making care more accessible for individuals, couples, children, and families throughout the region."

Leading the Newtown office will be Alexandra Ferris, LPCA, Senior Therapist and Clinical Outreach Specialist, a Newtown native whose personal experiences inspired her career in counseling.

Ferris was in eighth grade when the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School unfolded in 2012. With siblings attending nearby elementary schools, the events had a profound impact on her and helped shape her desire to pursue a career supporting the mental health and well-being of others.

"Growing up in Newtown, the Sandy Hook tragedy had a lasting impact on me," Ferris said. "It showed me how important access to mental health care is for individuals, families, and entire communities."

Ferris also understands firsthand the challenges many families face when seeking mental health support. As a child, she struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) at a time when resources and specialized support were far less accessible than they are today.

"When I was younger, there weren't many resources available for families navigating OCD," she said. "My family worked hard to find support, and those experiences inspired me to enter the counseling field. Being able to help others access the care and support they need is so meaningful to me."

Her connection to the community and passion for helping others make her uniquely positioned to lead the Newtown office as it begins serving local residents.

The expansion comes as Southbury Counseling continues to grow across multiple locations while maintaining a strong focus on patient care and clinician development. One key component of that growth has been the creation of an internal leadership development program designed to cultivate future leaders from within the organization.

Ferris said she is grateful for the leadership program that the practice offers to help them learn and grow.

"The leadership development program was something we started organically over time as the practice continued to grow. As we expanded into multiple locations, it became important to create a pathway for clinicians who showed strong leadership ability, initiative, and alignment with our culture to take on larger roles within the organization," Stack explained. "The program focuses on mentorship, operational training, clinical leadership, staff support, and helping clinicians develop the skills needed to oversee teams and locations effectively. A big part of it is making sure we continue promoting from within whenever possible, rather than bringing in outside leadership unfamiliar with our values and approach to patient care."

The program focuses on mentorship, operational training, clinical leadership, staff support, and helping clinicians develop the skills necessary to effectively oversee teams and office locations. According to Stack, promoting from within has become a cornerstone of the practice's philosophy.

By investing in its clinicians and leadership team, Southbury Counseling aims to ensure that growth never comes at the expense of quality care. The approach has allowed the organization to expand while preserving the supportive culture that has helped it build strong relationships with patients and communities throughout the region.

“We’re excited to continue expanding access to high-quality mental health care in the community through the opening of Newtown Therapy, a Southbury Counseling practice. Our goal has always been to create welcoming, supportive environments for both patients and clinicians, and Newtown is another step toward making care more accessible for individuals, couples, children, and families throughout the region,” said Stack.

The Newtown office will offer counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, providing support for a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and relationship challenges. Practice leaders say the new location was chosen to help meet growing demand for mental health services while reducing barriers to care for local residents.

As preparations continue for the office's opening, the organization remains focused on its mission of providing compassionate, professional mental health care in welcoming and accessible settings.

The opening of Newtown Therapy marks another milestone in that effort, bringing additional resources and support to families and individuals in Newtown and surrounding communities.

Newtown Therapy opens this Thursday, June 4 and is located at 14 Commerce Rd., Suite 105, in Newtown. For more information, please visit southburycounseling.com/ call (203) 568-5923 or email newpatient@southburycounseling.com.
