A Brookfield baker, along with a couple dozen other local farmers, bakers and makers will join The Newtown Farmers Market to welcome shoppers on Tuesday, July 21, from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Hills Campus, offering an afternoon of fresh local foods, live entertainment, and family activities before forecasted thunderstorms are expected to move into the area later in the evening.
With the greatest chance of rain and thunderstorms expected Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, market organizers encourage visitors to arrive early to shop the wide selection of locally grown produce, artisan breads, baked goods, specialty foods, flowers, handmade products, and more.
Families are invited to attend a special Story Time with Miss Megan from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. Presented in partnership with the Cyrenius H. Booth Library and the Newtown Forest Association, the program will feature nature- and agriculture-themed books for children ages 2 to 10, providing a fun and educational experience focused on farms, forests, and the outdoors.
Live entertainment will also be featured throughout the afternoon as local musician Dan Tressler returns to perform from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the music while supporting local farmers, bakers, food producers, artisans, and small businesses.
The market welcomes families, friends, children, and well-behaved dogs, and shoppers are encouraged to bring reusable shopping bags while supporting Connecticut's local agricultural community.
The Newtown Farmers Market is held every Tuesday from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Hills Campus.
The market operates rain or shine; however, organizers note that lightning or severe weather may require vendors to temporarily suspend operations or close early for safety. Visitors are encouraged to monitor the Newtown Farmers Market's social media pages for any weather-related updates.
