New Regional Trail Network Could Connect 7 Western CT Towns

BROOKFIELD, CT — Plans for a new network of multi-use trails spanning seven municipalities in western Connecticut are moving forward, according to Brookfield officials.

The Western Connecticut Regional Trail Project would connect New Milford, Brookfield, Danbury, Ridgefield, Redding, Wilton and Norwalk, according to Brookfield economic development and project manager Greg Dembowski.

The network would link existing trail segments, including the Norwalk River Valley Trail, Still River Greenway, Maybrook Trail and New Milford River Trail, filling gaps and expanding recreational and transportation connections across western Connecticut.

The Western Connecticut Council of Governments has launched a website detailing the project and is seeking input from residents about how the trail network could best serve their communities.

"This project is one of four currently in design that will extend the Still River Greenway in Brookfield both north and south from its current limits, including the next two phases of the Town Hall Campus Master Plan," Dembowski said.

After the planning and design process is completed, the council and its partners will seek grants and other funding to obtain permits and construct the trail network.
