Brookfield Doctor Accused Of Sexual Assault, Giving Drugs To Juvenile Patient: Police

A months-long investigation led to the doctor's arrest and a search of the Brookfield practice where he treated the juvenile, police said.

BROOKFIELD, CT — A Brookfield doctor is facing sexual assault and drug charges after police said a months-long investigation found he provided methamphetamine to a juvenile patient and engaged in a sexual relationship with the juvenile.

Dr. Jose Mahfoud was arrested Thursday on an active warrant and charged with second-degree sexual assault and distribution of a controlled substance to a person under 18, according to the Brookfield Police Department.

The investigation began after a juvenile disclosed the incident to a Brookfield police youth officer, police said. The juvenile told investigators that Mahfoud provided them with methamphetamine while they were receiving treatment at Sophia Natural Health Center in Brookfield and engaged in a sexual relationship with them.

Investigators also learned that Mahfoud and the juvenile had communicated using the encrypted messaging app Telegram, police said.

As part of the investigation, a Brookfield youth officer accessed the juvenile's Telegram account and subsequently communicated with Mahfoud as part of the department's investigative efforts, according to police.

Mahfoud was taken into custody without incident Sept. 10. Investigators also executed a search warrant at Sophia Natural Health Center, where Mahfoud practiced, police said.

The months-long investigation was conducted by the Brookfield Police Department's Investigative Division with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations in New Haven.

Sophia Natural Health Center cooperated with investigators throughout the investigation, according to police.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information about Mahfoud or information that could be relevant to the investigation to contact Youth Officer Heller at 203-740-4135 or mheller@brookfieldct.gov.
