BROOKFIELD, CT — A vehicle fire temporarily shut down Route 7 northbound in Brookfield on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 3:51 p.m. for a reported vehicle fire on the northbound highway.
The incident forced authorities to close the northbound lanes for approximately 30 minutes while firefighters worked at the scene, the department said.
Photos released by the fire company show a vehicle engulfed in flames along the side of the highway, with thick black smoke rising above the roadway.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brookfield Fire Marshal's Office.
Following the incident, the fire company reminded motorists not to turn around on highways, drive against traffic or cross the center median to avoid delays.
"These actions are extremely dangerous and can result in serious or fatal collisions," the department said.
Officials urged drivers encountering emergency scenes to remain patient, follow responders' directions and use the next available exit when an alternate route is needed.
