Aquarion Acquisition of United Water Approved

Aquarion Water Company announced the completion of the purchase of United Water Connecticut, Inc., which serves over 21,000 residents in the Connecticut towns of Brookfield, Bethel, Newtown, New Milford and Woodbury.

With this purchase, Aquarion will now provide water service to more than 625,000 people in 47 cities and towns throughout the state, in addition to its service territories in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

“We have been following a strategy of growth through acquisition with the goal of creating an integrated and unified system statewide,” Aquarion President and CEO Charles V. Firlotte said. “As a regional water supplier, we will have the opportunity to act as a resource for these towns and work with them to help improve the overall water infrastructure in western Connecticut.” 

In 2011 and 2012, Aquarion purchased and integrated 56 Connecticut water systems into its portfolio, which strengthened the company’s ability to deliver high quality water to communities throughout the state.

The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) awarded Aquarion with the honor of highest rating of all state utilities it regulates for the last five years in a row.

United Water will continue to operate in Connecticut through its public-private partnerships with the municipalities of Newtown, Weston, Ridgefield, Sharon, Killingly, and Stonington.
