How does a postcard and a 74 year-old hotel bill lead to a lesson in history?

I am fascinated by even just the smallest scraps of paper left behind from a past life. They are clues that lead me to ask questions and learn more. No, it’s not about prying into someone’s life; it’s walking in their footsteps and trying to see things from their point of view.
The lives of those around us living or dead are valid and the things I uncover at estate sales validates them.
