Brookfield High School Writing Center Workshop Led By Peers
Three grads present to current tutors
BHS Writing Center tutors attended a special workshop on Wednesday, January 7, led by three BHS grads who now work in their respective university Writing Centers. Alexandria Bottelsen, a junior at UConn, prepared several activities for the current tutors that highlighted the importance of recognizing key “big-picture” components in composition when working with tutees. Alex gained an assist in this workshop from twins Matt Digirolamo and Joe Digirolamo (BHS ‘2013), now sophomores at Cornell University.
Alex, Matt and Joe were all exemplary, veteran workers in the BHS Writing Center; they ended the workshop session by sharing personal experiences of their work with college students and answering many questions posed to them by the current high school tutors. Each of these college students agreed that the experience they gained while working in the BHS Writing Center empowered them with the confidence and the tools vital to their work at the university level. This workshop was the 2nd held this school year as ongoing training for these peer tutors.
