Body Recovered From Candlewood Lake During Search For Missing Swimmer

Sherman Volunteer Fire Department​ officials said the search for the swimmer who went missing Friday has been called off.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Crews have successfully recovered a body from Candlewood Lake believed to be the swimmer missing Friday night near Chicken Rock.

Sherman Volunteer Fire Department officials said the search was called off shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The body was spotted by the Candlewood Lake Authority Marine Patrol just southeast of Green Island. Sherman marine crews then recovered the body, and turned it over to officers from the state Environmental Conservation Police, a division of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The incident remains under investigation, and the unidentified body awaits the state Medical Examiner's Office.
