Brookfield Awarded DEEP 'America the Beautiful' Grant

Town of Brookfield received a grant of $3,495 for the Still River Greenway Enhancement Project.

BROOKFIELD, CT-- The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) recently announced that the Town of Brookfield is one of 17 recipients of the 2016 America the Beautiful (ATB) urban forestry grants, according to a release.

The DEEP stated that the ATB grants are designed to advance urban forestry in Connecticut.

“Urban forestry is all about planning for the future – it is gesture of true optimism. The work done this year, through these grants, will sustain for years and even generations to come,” said Chris Martin, DEEP’s Director of Forestry. “What is great about these grants is that the work is being done at the local level, by people who care deeply about the city or town where they live. DEEP is there to help, but the people are there to get things done.”

Funding for the grants is through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a multi-state effort to reduce carbon emissions from power plants. Administration of grants is through the DEEP Division of Forestry.

Below are the grant recipients.
