Brookfield Bakery Debuts 'Run for the Roses' Cookies for Kentucky Derby Day

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Celtic Cottage, a licensed small-batch cottage kitchen/bakery in Brookfield, is bringing a taste of Southern charm to Connecticut with the launch of its limited-edition “Run for the Roses” cookie collection, created in honor of Kentucky Derby Day.

Available for one weekend only, the collection features a lineup of handcrafted, Derby-inspired cookies that blend classic flavors with a seasonal, artisanal twist. Each item is baked in small batches at the Celtic Cottage and designed to capture the spirit, elegance, and tradition of the iconic horse race.

“Our goal was to create something that feels festive and special, while still staying true to the cozy, homemade style people know us for,” said Wendy Mitchell, baker/owner of the Celtic Cottage. “The Kentucky Derby has such a rich tradition—from the flavors to the visuals—and we wanted to bring that experience to our local community in a fun, approachable way,” Mitchell said.

The Run for the Roses Cookie Collection includes:

• Golden Tempo Horseshoe Cookie – A chocolate sugar cookie shaped like a horseshoe and finished with a shimmering gold glaze, inspired by Derby symbolism and the excitement of race day
• Mint Julep Cookies – A refreshing mint-forward cookie with a bright lemon glaze, inspired by the Derby’s signature drink
• Strawberry Shortcake Cookies – Thick, bakery-style cookies filled with strawberries and finished with a red and white chocolate drizzle
• Additional seasonal flavors available in limited quantities

The collection will be available for pre-order and weekend pickup, with limited quantities offered at the farm stand on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Celtic Cottage specializes in small-batch, organic baked goods, including sourdough breads, seasonal pastries, and decorated cookies, all made with a focus on high quality organic ingredients and traditional techniques.
