Brookfield Craft Center Receives Major Funding

The money is "critical fuel" In a year of tight budgets and funding for non-profits.

BROOKFIELD, CT -- The Brookfield Craft Center (BCC) announced Thursday that it has received more than $140,000 in major foundation gifts for 2018 and beyond, helping to fulfill strategic plans for growth in programs and facility improvements.

An earlier grant from an anonymous foundation, a three-year commitment for $100,000 per year, is being used to to create a staff position BCC is calling "Artist in Residence / Education Director." The new position will provide support for BCC's education programs, while also offering expertise and learning opportunities from their own craft.

Funding from the anonymous grant will also contribute to purchasing the equipment to establish the "Center for Modern Craft," a technology-driven studio and learning center within BCC. “Today’s artists are increasingly combining traditional and modern techniques to create their art. There are so many new applications in 3D printing, digital photography, editing, design, and more, so our goal is to help bring the art and science of crafting together,” said Board President Monica McInerney.

In a year of tight budgets and funding for non-profits, BCC's executive director Howard Lasser calls the grants "critical fuel to help expand on the mission of the center."

“Ongoing donor support from individuals is an essential part of our success," Lasser said, "and our supporters and local community have re-established the Craft Center as a vibrant, growing center for learning and experiencing fine crafts. With large foundations grants, we are able to implement game-changing initiatives to solidify the future for years to come.”
