Details of good work
- “Led by the Town Clerk, Joan Locke, her staff does the nitty-gritty work of maintaining records, information giving, providing documents, making copies, etc. More than anything, they all contribute to providing a welcoming environment to the public. Day in and day out, Joan and her three staff members - Mary Ellen, Joan, and Michelle - always have a smile on their faces and are ever ready to assist the town residents who bring in a variety of needs.
They live up to their mission of being effective and efficient. Sometimes it’s a wonder that they can complete all the tasks they have and meet the timelines to which they sometimes must adhere. In addition, they have to respond to requests of town officials for information and clarification of laws, policies, rules and regulations, one’s personal or political affiliations never interfere with their duties to anyone seeking answers or documentation. At times, they even play a counselor role in allowing residents to vent feelings and frustrations with our local government and leaders.”
Why do you feel is this person an Everyday Hero?
- “In a town that has demonstrated strong partisan politics, sometimes vitriolic feelings among residents, Joan and her staff are a refreshing model of civility and grace. It is always a pleasure to go into that office. One can be confident that he/she will leave with a good feeling in addition to the answers they were seeking.”
