Brookfield Firefighters Rescue Ducklings Trapped In Drain

Nine baby ducks had taken a wrong turn down a storm drain...

BROOKFIELD, CT — Firefighters came to the rescue of a brood of baby ducks on Wednesday.

At 4:20 p.m., members of both Brookfield fire companies responded to assist the Brookfield Police Department, following a report of eight ducklings who were trapped with in a storm drain in the area of 46 Federal road.

First responders found nine baby ducks trapped along three drainage grates. Firefighters removed the drainage grates and climbed down into the storm drain. The rescue operation took 45 minutes in total, and all the ducklings were unharmed.

"The ducklings were handed over to the BPD who brought them to the nearby creek to be released back to their mother," according to a report from the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department Candlewood Company.
