Brookfield GOP Primary Results: New Faces, New Chairman

A required recount of the bottom nine candidates will be done by Brookfield officials.

BROOKFIELD, CT-- Brookfield’s vote Tuesday evening was super close with a 13-12 split between the two slates for 25 open seats on the Republican town Committee, according to The News Times.

According to unofficial election results, the caucus-endorsed slate will remain. Voters will choose a new Chairman for the BRTC at a later date as current BRTC Chairman Matthew Grimes did not receive enough votes to remain. See photo for unofficial voting results.

In a heated political climate, Mary Ferry, a vocal Brookfield Republican, posted the following message on his Facebook group:

"I want to thank everyone who came out and voted and supported the Republican Party yesterday. For those on the challenger slate, we earned the respect being denied us and many members of the Republican Party, as well as Brookfield Voters at large.

Two issues that we will work to remedy are bringing an end to the removal of party members, and increasing the access to the political process to all.

A third involves the A Brookfield Party. More than 50 voters remain in that party and the ABP Chairperson Rob Gianazza continues to pretend they don't exist. He did not hold his biannual caucus once again as outlined in his bylaws and still continues to ignore SEC violations.

Brookfield Republicans cannot continue to conduct business with a party that ignores voters, has them removed from public property for exercising their freedom of speech, and denies them any say whatsoever in their own party.

I challenge Mr. Gianazza to hold a fair caucus of his political party by May 1st or step down from his position on the Board of Finance. We cannot have a town board run by someone who denies his own voters their rights.

While decisions to cross endorse are a committee decision by vote, I am writing this to make known to the rest of the slate the resolve of its newest members. A fresh start is a fresh start. It's time to say, "Not in my town."
