Brookfield GOP Town Committee Announces Republican of the Year Dinner

The 4th Annual Brookfield Republican of the Year Dinner will begin 5:30 p.m on Sunday, April 30 at Armando's in Bethel.

The Fundraising Subcommittee of the Brookfield Republican Town Committee is pleased to announce the Brookfield Republican of the Year Dinner for 2023. The 4th Annual Event will begin 5:30 PM on Sunday, April 30th at Armando’s, 47 Stony Hill Rd. in Bethel. Cocktail hour will be 5:30 to 6:30 followed by dinner. On March 21st, the Brookfield RTC Membership selected the following award winners for 2023:

  • Republican of the Year: former State Sen. Craig Miner (R-30th)
  • Bud Brown Leadership Award for Lifetime Contribution: Marty Flynn
  • Martha Burr Unsung Hero Award for Volunteerism: Steve Harding, Sr.
  • Brookfield RTC Member of the Year for 2022: George Walker

Miner retired from the CT General Assembly in January after six years representing Brookfield in the State Senate, which followed sixteen years in the House of Representatives for the 66th District. Previously, Miner was First Selectman of Litchfield for 10 years. In the legislature, Miner championed several issues for Brookfield – concerning Lakes Candlewood and Lillinonah - in his capacity as ranking member of the Environment Committee.

Flynn served three terms as Brookfield RTC Chair and helped raise the organization to statewide prominence. He served as Zoning Board of Appeals Chair for ten years, on the Water Pollution Control Authority for ten years, and on the Board of Selectmen for two years. He owns and operates Martin Flynn Plumbing in Brookfield.

Harding is the father of current State Sen. Steve Harding (R-30th). He has held various titles in the Brookfield Baseball and Softball Association over the last twenty years and currently remains the longest serving President. A previous member of the Brookfield RTC, Harding volunteers in the Candlewood Lake Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.

Walker, a former Selectmen and member of the Board of Finance, has served as the RTC’s go-to contact for securing headquarters location and has been a lead fundraiser for the organization. In 2022, the location obtained by Walker attracted a record-turnout Fall Social for the Brookfield GOP.
