Brookfield Group Needs Help Raising Funds for Weight Room

A local group is working to raise funds to renovate the Brookfield High School weight room.

Editor’s note: Susan Allen is seeking donations of equipment or money to help Brookfield High School improve and update their weight room. According to Allen, the equipment is “old, rusty, unsafe and barely usable.” Any donors or sponsors will be commemorated with a plaque inside the renovated weight room. On Monday, Allen posted the message below on the group’s Facebook page.

From Brookfield High School Weight /Fitness Room Fundraiser:

We have three estimates for equipment for the weight/fitness room. They run between $36,000 to $46,000. With some negotiation we hope to lower the price or some equipment will have to be omitted .
Presently we are just under 10,000 dollars. If we get to 16,000 we have a donor to give 8,000 to name the weight/fitness room after a former student and athlete from Brookfield who died of ALS. What a wonderful tribute that would be.

Our goal is to do renovations the holiday week in December. The goal is to keep trying to get donations or sponsorships. A grand opening in January is planned to celebrate. There are containers at the games at concessions to donate, any little bit helps.

In closing, I want to address something a parent said to me at the game Friday night when asking for support; my child doesn’t use the weight room. A lot of the children do not use the weight room, that is true, sadly true! The weight/fitness room is in such poor condition, nobody wants to use, but if you are a parent and you want better for your children please consider a donation. Large or small, because right now your child may not use the weigh/fitness room, but once it is done, I guarantee a lot more will use it.

Also for all those who say, make the town pay......this room has not been done over for a very, very long time. It is not a priority, with budget cuts to the bone the weight room has very little chance of getting on the agenda. I am going to go before the school board and ask for some money to help fund....if we can do the equipment, then perhaps the board can find enough money for cardio equipment.
