More people perished during the battle of Okinawa than in the ensuing atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. Mr. Feifer’s work is a stunning account of the last major campaign of World War II which was the largest military land, sea and air engagement in history.

A world renowned author, Feifer has received accolades from the likes of Studs Terkel, who wrote after reading the book, “Unless we know of Okinawa and its beleaguered people, we know precious little of World War II.” Stephen E. Ambrose author of the Citizen Soldier and Easy Company, the basis for the TV presentation A Band of Brothers, observed, “Feifer’s work is deeply moving, and a credit to journalism, history and the United States. It far surpasses most books about war.”
